After three years of successfully serving hundreds of service members, veterans, and their families from around the country, the Coming Home Project is expanding beyond Northern California to offer retreats in the San Diego, San Antonio and Washington DC metro area. To support this expansion the Coming Home Project will need additional facilitators in these locations. The purpose of this conference is to provide participants with an understanding of the Coming Home Project’s unique philosophy and approach to helping service members, veterans, and families with the psychological, emotional, relationship and spiritual challenges of deployment and reintegration.

After this training conference, if you are interested, you may apply to be part of a pool of adult or child facilitators for retreats to be held in your area in 2010 between Memorial Day and Labor Day (inclusive).  Facilitator pools will be supported and trained by the Coming Home Project team and will become part of our expanded regional teams.

Our residential retreats combine four elements:
(1) peer support, (2) stress management and wellness skills, (3) creative expression, and (4) outdoor recreation -- to create a safe and trusting environment in which veterans, service members and their families can share their stories and experiences. Our bio-psycho-social perspective recognizes the spiritual dimension in trauma, facilitating its transformation while remaining non-denominational and welcoming of all faiths including non-believers. There are dedicated programs each day for adults and children, all of which are led by our specially trained psychotherapists, who act as either adult or child facilitators. Our retreats are held in serene, natural settings.

While our retreats are not psychotherapy and we do not offer psychotherapy at retreats, facilitation by licensed mental health professionals and trained military chaplains ensures a high level of professionalism and care for all participants.

Experience with small group process, today's military culture, working with OIF and OEF veterans / service members / families is preferred.
